Why Take on Bullying Through an Arts and Entertainment Night

‘A NIGHT IN HARMONY’

We decided on an entertainment night, as youth identified that they felt like they were being “talked at” around this subject, that for the most part they would zone out when the topic would come up (typically by adults), thinking it had nothing to do with them.  As such, we decided to take on bullying in a way that would have youth listening versus tuning out.

As youth, especially those that come from the culture of disability, are injured and/or traumatized, our voices are often times forgotten, silenced, left out, not taken seriously, and/or ignored altogether.

We will provide a night where youth, the silenced, the neglected, the isolated, etc, have an opportunity to feel empowered through their actions.  By showcasing bullying in such a visual way, we are taking steps to move bullying from “behind closed doors,” and bring it out in the open.  We will shed light on a topic that not only impacts an individual for the duration of the act, but also affects them for the rest of their lives; it will open the eyes of the community to the fact that we need to stand as one to stop bullying.
