Community outreach program that focused on introducing youth to the joys of gardening by making more “green spaces”: whether it’s helping neighbors in need with cutting their lawns, planting seeds, cleaning up yards or starting a community garden.
Community gardens are typically “public land owned by the government or non-profit associations. They are occasionally privately owned and function as businesses”.
WHEN:
The active part of this project has ended.
However growing your own garden is a great way to relax, share bonding time with family: it also may make you feel good about yourself as you are growing your own food to eat (or share) and if you don’t have the space then you can join a community garden.
WHERE:
The active part of this project has ended.
However, send us an email and will make every effort to connect with a community garden and/or a groups of students that have a passion for gardens and/or are willing to negotiate reduced fees.
MESSAGE FROM PARYS:
IMAGINE…
touching dirt and it causing you such pain that your body goes into overload, shutting down some basic functions like body control.
After my brother was injured this became a reality, he couldn’t stand anything to touch him (in particular his hands, feet and face), especially if had a different temperature and/or texture. His senses would become so overwhelmed that his body would shut down, many times sending him to the hospital racked in agony.
My mom developed Natural Play-Based Therapy programs that included gardening, that would slowly expand his sensory’s so he could participate in everyday activities versus his entire world being focused just on clinical medical therapies. We found a way to help my brother on the road to recovery, find your way with whatever challenge you may face – trust yourself.
Never give up… things can change in a blink of an eye, whether it be positive or negative you just never know.
WHO CAN BE INVOLVED:
The active part of this project has ended.
However, anyone with a passion to develop more green spaces for easier breathing and want a new way to teach people how to take care of themselves (physical exercise, relaxation, and organic food) and other things.
